Get To Know A Creative, #2: Shanice Garcia
What got you started on making art?
I started out with web design, back when I was in grade school. It was simply something that I did for fun — I never really had formal education on such, after all. As I sought new (and easy) ways to design and code websites, I discovered Photoshop and eventually made works for online communities like fanarts and icons (such is the stressless life I had when I was young!). As I entered high school, I was put in charge of different projects that entailed the knowledge of graphic design. I was also part of the Computer club back then so I required myself to learn. It was a random thought to pursue the field in college; I did not really expect to get in the Fine Arts program, honestly. It wasn’t a path I had in mind, but now that I’m pursuing it, I can’t think of anywhere else I could be in.
If you could master any medium, which one would you choose?
Digital art and photography. Digital art is just something that I can’t live without — now, it’s something that will become a living so I really want to be the best in that field :)) Photography on the other hand started out as just a hobby, but it has become very personal. I fell in love with it but it’s just so overly glamorized that I want to take photographs that aren’t the usual snap-curves-color correct-save kind (hi Tumblr!).
Why are you in the Creative Team?
I applied because I am such a huge fangirl of LFCs promo materials. The Creatives Team constantly deliver so much awesomeness in everything they create. I remember looking forward to LFC events because they would always come with very nice promos :) So I made sure that I at least apply the next school year.
If you had the fattest budget in the world, what kind of art project would you make?
I’ve been pondering over my possible thesis proposal for my senior year and I would love to create an inspirational book or even just a blog that showcases the smiles of the different peoples of Asia. So I’d use the money for my traveling expenses :)) …But I would also like to create installation art. Something that can combine my love for all art media :)
If artists were superheroes, what kind of power would you wield?
The power to easily find a (high paying) job. Heehee. Kidding aside, the power to make artworks become actual things? :)
